Nepal made good progress but not fully implemented ILO Convention no. 169

On 14 September 2007 Nepal, the government of Nepal ratified the ILO Convention no. 169. Nepal is the first among South Asian countries to ratify ILO Convention 169 related to indigenous nationalities. 

ILO Convention no. 169 concerns indigenous people, and 36 per cent of Nepal's population is made up of 59 different groups of indigenous peoples. Following the ratification, it is the responsibility of Nepal to implement this convention as a state party. However, there has been controversy in its proper implemention. 

Richard Howard spoke with Dev Kumar Sunuwar about the implementation of ILO Conventions, including ILO Convention no. 169 and its controvery around implemention.
